Why Sunnyside

Groundwork that last.

Groundwork is unforgiving because nobody can see it once you have built on top. We dig to the right depth, we tie in drainage to the right falls, we pour concrete to the right mix. Get the groundwork right and the build above stays still for a hundred years.

Most of our work comes through word of mouth from previous clients across Shrewsbury, Birmingham, Solihull and the surrounding villages. We do not take on more than we can finish well, and we treat every job as if our reputation depends on it. Because it does.

Every quote we issue is line-by-line and fixed. You see the cost of every stage and every material before we lift a hammer. No sliding scope, no surprise variations.

What's included

Every groundwork project we take on includes the survey, drawings where needed, building control where required, all materials, all labour, all site disposal, and a two-year workmanship guarantee.

What we cover

How we do groundwork.

The bits that make the difference. The detail, the materials, the sequencing. This is what separates a build that lasts from one that does not.

01

Foundations

Strip, trench-fill or raft, dug to the engineered depth and inspected before pour. Done by someone who has poured a thousand of them.

02

Drainage

Foul and surface water runs, set to the correct falls. ACO channels, soakaways, gullies. Tested before backfill.

03

Oversites

DPM, hardcore, blinding, slab. Built up correctly under every extension and new-build floor.

04

Concrete pours

Ready-mix or site-mixed depending on volume. Floated, edged, cured properly. No cracks, no surprises.

05

Site clearance and excavation

Dig-outs for basements, swimming pools, large foundations. Muck-away and tipping included.

06

Building control inspections

Booked at every key stage. Foundations signed off before any concrete goes down.

Common questions

Groundwork, asked.

How deep do foundations need to be?
Depends on soil type and proximity to trees. Typically 1 metre for normal subsoil, 1.5 to 3 metres near mature trees, deeper for clay shrinkage zones. Engineer and building control specify the depth.
What is a trench-fill foundation?
A trench dug to the right depth, then poured solid with concrete up to near ground level. Quick to build off, no blockwork below DPC. Most of our extension foundations are trench-fill.
Do I need a soakaway?
For surface water (rainfall) on most extensions and new-builds, yes, unless you are connecting to an existing drain that has capacity. Building control insist on it where ground conditions allow.
How is the concrete inspected?
Building control come out before the pour. They inspect the trench depth and base condition. Once they sign off, we pour the same day.
